Wild Horse (717 Tapes) by Warren Zeiders

The “wild horse” mentioned in the title and chorus is a metaphor. And what it represents, most simply put, is something like the vocalist’s unfulfilled destiny.

As it currently stands, he does not appear to have a precise vision of what such entails. Indeed as implied in the second verse, it may be that Warren is chasing the wind, so to speak. Moreover, it reads as if he may be under the influence of alcohol, at least to some degree.

But that said, the narrator is apparently in a position where he cannot silence that inner voice telling him to go and venture out on his own, forsaking his past in the process, even if he doesn’t have a definitive idea of where he’s headed. And such has been his modus operandi for a number of “long hard years” now.

So by the time all is said and done, what Warren is actually doing is presenting himself as a type of “cowboy”. However, the road he has tread is not one to be idolized. Instead, it’s as if the “wild horse” in his heart had led him down a path of hardship and loneliness. But with that being noted, he doesn’t actually proceed to express any regret for making such a decision.

Who is Warren Zeiders?

Warren Zeiders is an up-and-coming country musician as of the dropping of this track on 15 April 2022. What is known at the time is that he’s in his early 20s, comes from Pennsylvania and traces his musical background to growing up in the church. But he isn’t one of those singers who had aspirations of going pro from childhood. Rather it was the COVID-19 pandemic and more specifically giving up his collegiate sport of lacrosse as a result which ultimately led to him focusing on music, getting his start of course via the social-media circuit.

Mainstream success came to Zeiders quickly as “Ride the Lightning”, a track he self-released in mid-2021, went on to promptly be certified gold by the RIAA in early 2022. It was also around that time that Warren signed a deal with Warner records, one of the biggest labels in the industry.

“Wild Horse”

“Wild Horse” is one of the songs to be found on “717 Tapes, Vol. 2”, an EP that Zeiders released under Warner Records. And to note, there are two versions of “Wild Horse” featured on the album.

This track was produced by Eddie Spear, a musician who has a Grammy under his belt due to his participation on “By the Way, I Forgive You” (2018), which took home the Best American Album award in 2019.
