Super Mario Odyssey guide: Snow Kingdom all power moon locations

There are two kinds of collectibles in nearly every Super Mario Odyssey kingdom: power moons and coins. In this guide, we’ll show you where to find the Snow Kingdom’s power moons.

You only need 10 power moons to move on from the Snow Kingdom. You’ll be able to pick up moons 1-5, 7, 9, 12, and 18 by unlocking (and then winning) the Shiverian races. Moons 38-55 are released when you smash the moon rock.

Our power moons guide puts the collectibles in the same order as Super Mario Odyssey.

1. The Icicle Barrier

Once you make it down into Shiveria, there are four tunnels you have to clear to open up the races. Start with the first tunnel on the right. At the end of your journey, you’ll have to walk over three Xs to drop three giant icicles. That will drop a giant chunk of the floor, revealing the exit and your first moon.

2. The Ice Wall Barrier

The second moon is in the second tunnel on the right. You have to collect five shards, but there’s not really any trick to this one. You just have to avoid the Bitefrosts. They will lift you into the air, but it’s easy enough to jump of the way of their bite. Your moon will appear right by the exit pipe.

3. The Gusty Barrier

The third moon is down the first tunnel on the left. Near the end, capture one of the Ty-Foos to carry you across the un-jumpable gap. The moon is waiting for you near the exit.

4. The Snowy Mountain Barrier

Down the second tunnel on the left, you’ll have to defeat Rango (again) to get the fourth moon.

5. The Bound Bowl Grand Prix

After you defeat Rango and unlock the races, you’ll have to participate in the Bound Bowl Grand Prix. Take first place and you’ll get a moon.

6. Entrance to Shiveria

When you drop through the Ice Well to get down into Shiveria Town, turn around and look behind you when you land. There’s a moon up in the corner to the left of the pipe. Use the pile of boxes to help you Wall Jump up to it.

7. Behind the Snowy Mountain

On your way to fight Rango and retrieve moon 4 (in the second door on the left), you’ll have to pull a wooden post to reveal an updraft. There’s a tunnel through the wall behind the second updraft’s platform.

8. Shining in the Snow in Town

In Shiveria Town, there’s a pole to the right of the tunnels on the righthand side. Use the pole to climb up to the second floor. Head to the left and look for a gap in the railing. Use the chandeliers to jump across to the other side of the room. Clear away the snow to find a buried moon.

9. Atop a Blustery Arch

On your way to pick up moon 3 (in the first tunnel on the left side of Shiveria Town), you’ll have to capture a Ty-Foo and blow a set of stairs out of your way — he’s the second one of the pair of dueling Ty-Foos. Use him to move the stairs so you can get through the archway, then continue past. The next Ty-Foo you come to isn’t fenced in. Capture him and backtrack to the stairs. Blow the stairs back into place, then ground pound the top of the arch to find your moon.

10. Caught Hopping in the Snow!

From the Odyssey, turn and scan the southern shore of the lake. There’s a rabbit hopping around the icy platforms near the water’s edge.

11. The Shiverian Treasure Chest

Start on the second floor of Shiveria Town where you picked up moon 8. Continue clearing snow back toward the entrance to town. You’ll eventually reveal a hallway. Follow it up and to the left to find a chest and this moon.

12. Treasure in the Ice Wall

After you pick up moon 2, hop back to the nearest platform. Let the Bitefrost lift you up, then jump up to the crack on the wall. Work your way to the right to find a chest.

13. Snow Kingdom Timer Challenge 1

You’ll find this scarecrow on the eastern shore of the lake. Drop off the ledge and onto the circular ice platforms. You’ve got a little more leeway than usual with these, so you can be a little sloppy.

14. Snow Kingdom Timer Challenge 2

The second scarecrow is down on the bottom level, a little to the northeast of the Odyssey. Climbing the poles takes up a lot of the time, so make sure you’re shaking the controller(s) to climb as fast as you can.

15. Moon Shards in the Snow

You’ll probably see the first of these shards while you’re chasing the rabbit to claim moon 10. The second is back to the west behind the large column of ice. There’s another on top of an ice block right next to the Ice Well. Grab a nearby Cheep Cheep, and swim over to the west to find a ring of coins and another shard. The final shard is on an ice platform just to the south of the Ice Well.

16. Taking Notes: Snow Path Dash

Look for a note on the shore in the northwest corner of the lake. Just be careful whenever you’re running downhill so you don’t overshoot and fall into the water.

17. Fishing in the Glacier!

Look for the small pond in the southeastern corner of the map. When you go there, you’ll find a Lakitu fishing just like the one in the Lake Kingdom. Capture him and catch the largest fish to find this moon.

18. Ice-Dodging Goomba Stack

You’ll find this moon inside the first tunnel on the right in Shiveria Town on your way to get moon 1. Very early on in your journey through the area, you’ll see a Goomba-shaped button with a four on it. Capture a nearby Goomba and stack up three others — for a total of four. Jump the stack onto the button to reveal the moon.

19. Captain Toad is Chilly!

On the north side of the lake, a little way up away from the shore, look for a snowed-in cave. Clear away the snow to find Captain Toad inside.

20. I’m Not Cold!

Talk to the Shiverian across the hall from the Crazy Cap shop. He’ll challenge you wear the traditional Shiverian racing uniform. Head across the hall to buy the Boxer Shorts from the Crazy Cap shop for 1,000 coins. Put them on and head back out to talk to the Shiverian. He’ll reward you with a moon.

21. Shopping in Shiveria

You can get this moon from the Crazy Cap shop in Shiveria Town for 100 coins.

22. Walking on Ice!

Go through the red door behind the Corner of the Freezing Sea flag. Inside you’ll get a Trace-Walking challenge. This one is tricky because of the ice, so be patient.

23. Snowline Circuit Class S

The trick to winning this power moon is bounding (which is really just jumping) as soon as you land. In the GIF above, you’ll see three examples of bounding that you can use throughout the race:

  • Bound before you get to a corner so that you’ll land somewhere on the slanted part of the track. Then bound as soon as you land. It’s the fastest way to take a turn. In fact, it’s more like skipping a corner than rolling through it.
  • Bound as soon as you land. You can keep a streak if you bound as soon as you hit the ground. You’ll even see your character give off a bit of a glow to indicate that you’re doing well. (You can see that happen once for each jump above.)
  • Even on straightaways, you can get a bounding speed boost from the bumpy areas.
  • In short, we pressed B to bound every time we hit the ground above — and to avoid any turns in the track that aren’t slanted. Do the same, and you’ll outroll your opponents and get a power moon.

    24. Dashing Over Cold Water! and 25. Dashing Above and Beyond!

    There’s a little spit of ice and snow on the western shore of the lake. Head there, then clear some snow to reveal another red door. Inside, you’ll have to pick up a series of Rocket Flowers to navigate the path.

    • Power moon 24. Dashing Over Cold Water!: You’ll pick up this moon when you make it to the end.
    • Power moon 25. Dashing Above and Beyond!: Run past where moon 24 is, and jump over the ledge behind the warp pipe. Run up the wall and around the walls in your way, and you’ll find this power moon at the top.

    Since they both use the same course, the strategies for getting them apply to both. Here’s how we did it:

    • Stay in the middle, and make small adjustments to move toward the next flower in your path. Big adjustments will just throw Mario into the black abyss. Small adjustments from the middle will keep him on solid(ish) ground, even when you jump.
    • Ignore the coin rings and concentrate on collecting flowers. The coins are a distraction. (There are a billion less dangerous places to collect coins in Super Mario Odyssey.) The flowers are essential.
    • Don’t worry about adjusting the camera. Concentrate on moving Mario and adapting to the default camera placement.
    • Don’t adjust your jump trajectory in midair. Instead, make sure you’re running in the direction you want to jump — that you’re pointed in such a way that your jump will land on solid ground if you don’t press a direction in midair — and let the game do the rest.
    • To avoid the first series of turns, perform a hat jump (jump, press Y to throw Cappy, press ZL to start a ground pound and then press and hold Y to jump off of Cappy). Check out the video above to see this in action.

    26. Jump ‘n’ Swim in the Freezing Water

    Head to the northeast of the Odyssey. About halfway to the Ice Well, you’ll find another timer challenge scarecrow next to a door. This one isn’t a traditional timer challenge, though — your timer this time is the freezing water you need to navigate. Make your way all the way through the area and you’ll get a moon as a reward.

    Before you leave, grab moon 27.

    27. Freezing Water Near the Ceiling

    Right before the end of the area, there’s a wide column of water that will carry you down to the exit. Instead of going down, climb on top of it and ride it up. Use the poles to swing your way back to the left and claim your moon.

    28. Blowing and Sliding

    Grab one of the Ty-Foos near the Ice Well and fly over to the column where the Odyssey is parked. Blow the wooden block out of the way to reveal a door. Inside, there’s a small arena with a Ty-Foo and two blocks. Capture the Ty-Foo, then blow the blocks into the colored slots. Do the red one first, then the green one. Climb up the stairs you’ve created to find your moon.

    29. Moon Shards in the Cold Room

    Head to the purple half of the Crazy Cap shop in Shiveria Town. Grab the Snow Hood and Snow Suit (for a total of 15 Snow Kingdom coins). Once you’re properly dressed, head down toward the race. Climb the pole on the right — the same pole you climbed to get moons 8 and 11. Talk to the Shiverian next to the locked door, and you’ll get inside. You have to collect five moon shards in the 2-D world inside, but there’s no real trick to it. Just avoid the Spinies.

    30. Slip Behind the Ice

    Before you exit the 2-D world from moon 29, stand on the platform right above the green pipe. There are two invisible blocks above you. Jump to reveal them, then jump on top of them. Jump up through the ceiling, then run to the left (you don’t actually have to jump to cross these gaps).

    31. Spinning Above the Clouds

    Just to the east of the Ice Well, there’s a seed frozen in some ice. Smash the ice, and pick up the seed. Carry it back along the islands toward the Odyssey. You’ll have to set the seed down for a second to uncork an updraft. Pick it back up and ride the updraft up. There’s a pot on the pillar when you land where you can plant your seed. Climb up the beanstalk to get to a new area.

    Use the updrafts and the trampolines to make your way through the area, collecting rings and coins along the way. You’ll find this moon waiting for you at the end.

    32. High-Altitude Spinning

    Before you leave the above-cloud area where you picked up moon 31, there’s another a moon to grab. Watch for the diagonal row of rings between two updrafts. At the top of the updraft on the right, head back the way you came. Hit the trampoline off to the left to find the moon.

    33. Secret Path to Shiveria!

    Super Mario Odyssey’s warp paintings are incredibly confusing. They seem to change from game to game in a way that, thus far, we can’t explain. (In fact, we’re perfectly open to the possibility that at least some of them are random, which would explain our consternation.) So we’re going to do two things here: show you how we found this secret path, and show you a gallery of all warp painting locations in the game.

    The good news is that the locations of the paintings don’t change. However, the painting you see in a kingdom may be different. For example, we saw a painting of the Luncheon Kingdom in Wooded Kingdom. You may not. If that’s the case, check out the gallery below and make your way to another kingdom.

    The gallery above shows the locations of all warp paintings in Super Mario Odyssey. There’s a pattern, too: The first image shows you where you’ll stand on the map facing the painting, while the second image shows you what the painting looks like.

    In our game, the warp to Snow Kingdom is in Bowser’s Kingdom.

    34. Found with Snow Kingdom Art

    On one of your trips down to Shiveria Town, turn to the left as soon as you land. There’s a painting between a couple crates that will point you to this hidden moon. Return to the Lost Kingdom, then warp to the Mountainside Platform. Turn away from the Fuzzies and head north, then turn east. Hop over to the roots of the tree ahead of you. Ground pound the roots to find your moon.

    35. Snow Kingdom Regular Cup

    Warp to the Above the Ice Well flag, and make your way to the Koopa in the northeast. Speak to him to begin the race.

    Because it takes place during a blizzard, the hardest part is figuring out your path. You can see it in the video above. As soon as you know where to go, the rest of the race is almost trivial.

    The only other thing to do is wait until the Ty-Foo just before the finish line starts blowing. Then you can roll (ZL + Y) and long jump (ZL + B) your way past your competitors and over the finish line.

    36. Hat-and-Seek in the Snow

    Travel to the area where you race the Snowline Circuit, and speak to the character whose hat is actually a Bonneter. He’s on the left side if you’re facing the podium, and you can see the telltale eyes in the image above. (You’ll need to defeat Bowser the final time before you can get this power moon.)

    37. Peach in the Snow Kingdom

    Warp to the Above the Ice Well flag, and jump down the hole to go to Shiveria Town. Go down the hill, and turn left. Princess Peach is standing on a step against the wall. Speak to her to get this power moon.

    After breaking the moon rock

    The following power moons are available after you defeat Bowser for the final time and break the Snow Kingdom moon rock.

    38. Shining on High

    Climb the Odyssey’s flagpole and flip onto its roof. Long jump to grab the power moon hovering nearby.

    39. Above the Freezing Fish Pond

    From the Odyssey, head southeast following the wall. This power moon is sitting right out in the open, above the … well, the freezing fish pond.

    40. Ice Floe Swimming

    Warp to the Corner of the Freezing Sea flag in the northeast, and capture a nearby Cheep Cheep (which is a fish). Look below the water along the eastern edge of the kingdom to find this power moon.

    41. Icy Jump Challenge

    Warp to Above the Ice Well, and jump down the hole into Shiveria Town. Walk down the ramp, and enter the first door on your left. Make your way through the level until you reach the point where two Ty-Foos are blowing a big brown object back and forth. Jump on top of the object. The power moon is above you. Backflip as you travel back and forth to get it.

    42. Forgotten in the Holding Room

    Warp to Above the Ice Well, and jump down the hole into Shiveria Town. Walk down the ramp, and fall through the round hole in the center of the room. Enter the room on the left. Jump up the stairs, and turn left to enter a room with a bunch of stacked wooden crates. Destroy them all for coins and, you guessed it, a power moon.

    43. It Popped Out of the Ice

    Warp to Above the Ice Well and climb the tallest ice structure in the area. (It’s on your left as you land from your warp.) Jump from the top of the ice to another piece of ice directly east. Ground pound the glowing patch of ice for a power moon.

    44. Deep in the Cold, Cold Water

    Warp to Corner of the Freezing Sea and head northwest into a slightly deeper part of the lake. Go underwater, and ground pound the center (which is glowing) for this power moon.

    45. Water Pooling in the Crevasse

    Warp to Above the Ice Well, and jump down the hole into Shiveria Town. Walk down the ramp, and enter the farthest door on your right. Head northeast in the Hollow Crevasse, looking down into the water. At the far end of this area, underwater, you’ll see a glowing patch of ground. Hop into the water and ground pound to get this power moon.

    46. Squirming Under the Ice

    Warp to Above the Ice Wall and jump down the hole to Shiveria Town. Run down the ramp, and enter the second door on your left. Make your way through the area, and in the place where you once fought the boss, you’ll see something moving the ground. Hit it with Cappy and then ground pound it for a power moon.

    47. Snow Kingdom Timer Challenge 3

    Warp to Above the Ice Wall and head northeast. In the water, you’ll see a Cheep Cheep (that’s Mario for “fish”) swimming around a P-Switch. Grab it with Cappy, touch the switch and swim back the way you came. There’s a low area of land on the right. Jump over it and make your way to the power moon.

    48. Stacked-Up Ice Climb

    Warp to Above the Ice Wall and jump down the hole to Shiveria Town. Run down the ramp, and enter the first door on your right. Capture every Goomba you see, and make your way to the back of the level, up the stairs.

    There, you’ll see a block with 10 written on it. If you’re controlling a stack of 10 Goombas, you can jump on it for a power moon. If you don’t have 10, you can head back to the beginning of the level, where another Goomba will spawn.

    49. I Met a Snow Cheep Cheep!

    Look northwest away from the Odyssey, and you’ll see two round pools of water in the distance. Near the one farthest from you, you’ll find a Bonneter who wants to study fish. Go into the lake and grab one. Swim back and jump to the closest pool and then the second pool of water. You’ll get a power moon for your effort.

    50. Even More Walking on Ice!

    The key to winning this power moon is getting to the end of the first side of the triangle before the blue arrows disappear. Then stop and turn your camera to identify the straight line that you should walk next. Then turn the camera again to identify a reasonably straight line back to where you began. You can also use the images in the gallery above as a guide. (You need 90 points to win. We got 96, so those images should help.)

    51. Snow Kingdom Master Cup

    The key to winning this race is deceptively simple: Grab the fish in the water. Swim as far as you can go, become Mario again, and make your way up. For an extra speed boost against that evil golden Koopa, roll through the final section past the Ty-Foo.

    52. Iceburn Circuit Class A

    Winning here (and in the next class) isn’t about finding shortcuts or discovering tricks. It’s about running a good race. That means doing a few things in both races:

    • Don’t worry about your place. Concentrate on running a good race (which is what the rest of this section is about). You can catch up even in the last seconds of the race (which is what we do above).
    • Bound (jump) at almost every opportunity — especially on any surface that isn’t flat. That’s the key to getting speed boosts.
    • On slanted surfaces just after the starting line, make sure to tap B. Tapping will give you a soft bounce to the next platform. Holding B for too long will send you out of control. If you time it just right (like we do in the last lap), you’ll bounced to several inclined surfaces in a row and get a huge speed bump.
    • If you don’t have the right angle, don’t bound off of an inclined surface. It’s better to roll through than bounce wildly. You can make up the time later.
    • Press B to bound when you land throughout the tunnel. Doing that will get you a ton of speed. And getting a ton of speed will help make up for any parts of the race that you didn’t nail.
    • On the final corner before the finish line, always take the low road. Your competitors won’t, and it’s a great way to gain on and pass them.

    53. Iceburn Circuit Class S

    54. Running the Flower Road

    Warp to Above the Ice Wall and head northeast into what looks like the top of a gray chimney. The level couldn’t be more straightforward. Throw Cappy at the scarecrows, and run across the flower roads that appear. Dodge the enemies along the way, and you’ll get a power moon at the end.

    55. Looking Back on the Flower Road

    Warp to Above the Ice Wall and head northeast into what looks like the top of a gray chimney. As you pass the second Banzai Bill column, hop to the left flower road. The power moon is floating right there.
